Spiky effect

Spiky lash extensions are a map, not a separate set: longer closed spikes placed at a set frequency over a shorter, softer base. The spikes give a graphic, editorial line; the base keeps the eye full between them. We build spiky sets on a volume or hybrid base, from $170 to $250 depending on the density you want beneath the spikes.

Spiky: An editorial, graphic line.

How a spiky set is built

The base comes first: fans or singles at 8 to 10 mm, mapped for your eye shape. Then the spikes, typically 12 to 15 mm, are placed at an even interval, often every fourth or fifth natural lash, so the pattern reads as intentional. Each spike is a closed, narrow fan on one isolated lash, weighted so that the longer fibre does not overload the lash it sits on.

The spacing is the design. Random spikes look like a set that has grown out; measured spikes look drawn. We map the interval before we start, adjust it for the asymmetry between your two eyes, and record it so the rhythm is reproduced at every refill.

Spiky against wispy and wet look

Spiky, wispy and wet look all use spikes, and the difference is proportion. Wispy is soft: a fuller base with spikes only slightly longer, so the effect is texture. Spiky pushes the contrast: a shorter base, longer spikes, a visible pattern. Wet look uses closed fans everywhere, so the whole line reads glossy rather than punctuated. We show all three on your own eye at the consultation.

Who it suits

Spiky flatters almond and upturned eyes, where the spikes lift the line. It works against downturned eyes, where long spikes at the outer corner can drag the eye further down; there we shorten the outer spikes or suggest a different effect. It needs a reasonably healthy natural lash line to anchor the longer fibres, which we check under magnification first.

Care and refills

Spikes are the first thing to show wear because they are the longest fibres. Refill every two to three weeks, from $70, and the pattern is redrawn from the map on file. Cleanse daily with a lash foam, keep oils off the lash line, and do not pull at a spike that has twisted; we reset it at the refill.

Questions

Are spiky lashes the same as wispy lashes?

No. Both use longer spikes over a base, but wispy keeps the contrast soft and the base full, so it reads as texture. Spiky makes the spikes longer, the base shorter and the interval visible, so it reads as a pattern. Same tools, different proportions.

Do spiky lash extensions suit hooded eyes?

Sometimes. On a hooded eye the base must lift from the root with an L or M curl so it clears the fold, and the spikes are kept moderate so they do not disappear under the hood. The consultation checks this on your eye before we commit to the map.

How much does a spiky set cost?

The price is the base set: from $170 on hybrid, from $190 to $210 on light or full volume, from $250 on mega volume. The spikes are part of the map, not an extra charge. Refills are from $70 every two to three weeks.
