What are volume lash extensions?

The artist picks up two to six fibres, spreads them into a fan with a narrow base, and bonds the fan to one isolated natural lash. A hand-made fan can be fitted to that lash: wider for a strong lash, narrower and lighter for a fine one. We do not use pre-made fans. Their bases are thicker and cannot be fitted to the lash they sit on.

The number of fibres in a fan is written as a D number: 3D is three fibres, 5D is five. The fibre gets finer as the number rises, so the weight stays inside what the lash can carry.

Every volume set starts from a map of your eyes and lashes: where the longest fans sit, which curl, how much each lash can carry.

How much do volume lashes cost in Toronto?

At Beautiatelier light volume is from $190, full volume from $210 and mega volume from $250.

What is the difference between volume and mega volume?

The number of fibres in each fan. Light volume uses fans of two to three fibres, for a soft, even fullness that still reads as your own lashes. Full volume uses three to six, for a darker, denser line.

Mega volume, also called Russian volume, uses eight to fourteen fibres per fan at 0.03 mm. It is the densest set we make, and we offer it only to natural lashes strong enough to carry it.

Hybrid or volume lashes: which is better?

Volume puts a fan on every lash, so the density is even across the eye and gaps disappear. Hybrid keeps some single fibres visible, so it is lighter and less uniform.

Are volume lashes heavy on your natural lashes?

Not when the thickness is right. A fan of three 0.05 mm fibres weighs less than one 0.15 mm classic fibre. Weight becomes a problem when the number of fibres rises without the fibre getting finer, or when a fan is placed on a lash too fine to hold it. We set both for each part of the lash line from your own lashes, and at a refill we lower the number where a lash has thinned.

How long do volume lashes last?

A volume set is refilled every two to three weeks, like any set. The refill takes a little longer than a classic one, because each replacement is a fan made on the spot.

What are lash extensions made of?

A synthetic fibre called PBT. We do not use animal hair: what lash trays call mink or faux mink is PBT drawn to a fine, matte taper, and silk is the same fibre with a glossier finish. Each fibre, or each hand-made fan, is bonded to one isolated natural lash with a cyanoacrylate lash adhesive, 0.5 to 1 mm from the skin.

How do I prepare for my appointment?

Come with clean lashes: no mascara or eyeliner, and no oil-based products around the eyes that morning. Take contact lenses out. If you have reacted to lash adhesive before, book a free patch test 48 hours ahead. Arrive five minutes early: there is no waiting room, so we start on time.

Who will do my lashes?

Brynne Lee, the founder and lead artist, or one of the two artists she trained. Brynne is a five-time certified eyelash artist, twice certified in makeup, and an accredited trainer and educator, with more than eight years in the industry.
