The engineering choice
The lift breaks and re-forms the disulfide bonds in the lash's keratin around the shield. Shield radius sets the curl radius; timing is set by lash texture, and we stop before over-processing.
Moisture and pressure can still relax the curl.

A lift needs nothing but clean, conditioned lashes.
